About

CHARIKA Channuntapipat (Bo)

Charika is a researcher and lecturer in Accounting, who is interested in how accounting (as a science and as a set of tools) can help promote sustainability and sustainable development. Also, she is interested in the influences of accounting and accounting numbers on society and how different people act upon them.

Her broad research interest focuses on sustainability governance; those include corporate disclosures and related assurance practices (e.g. sustainability reporting and assurance, integrated reporting). She has been engaging with those practices and professional services such as being one of the members in <IR> Academic Research Support Group for the term of 18-month from Q4 2016 to Q1 2018; appointment by invitation from The International Integrated Reporting Council (IIRC ).

Charika is currently working at Thailand Develpopment Research Institute (TDRI). Her research focuses on sustainability governance; and responsible business and sustainable development.

Prior to joining TDRI, she had worked at Birmingham Business School for about 4 years (2017-2021) as a Lecturer in Accounting. Before joining the school, she was a doctoral researcher at Alliance Manchester Business School (AMBS). She was awarded her Ph.D. in Accounting in 2016. Her doctoral research highlights the variation of sustainability assurance practice in the UK. She has been working to understand the practice from its practical setting and from the point of view of the practitioners. This research interest is still the core of her current research. Charika was also a graduate teaching assistant at AMBS teaching financial reporting for three consecutive years.

Her research interests include …

  • Qualitative research
  • Sustainability reporting and assurance (including other non-financial reporting and assurance such as integrated reporting)
  • Corporate social responsibility and ‘responsible’ business

Her professional background lies in the areas of consultancy, and corporate banking. Although she has pursued my education all the way through PhD in the area of accounting.
